On November 11, 2008, a new flagpole, plaque and lighting for both, located on the south side of the AOEC building, were dedicated to former AOEC student, LCpl Matthew Medlicott.

LCpl Matthew Medlicott perished August 25, 2007 while serving with the I Marine Expeditionary Force in Iraq. He is the son of Mr. Bart Medlicott, Director of Orchestras at Waukegan High School and instrumental music teacher at several schools throughout District 60.

Donations were received by many generous people throughout the school district and surrounding communities to fund this memorial.
