April 2010

AOEC MAP Testing

MAP Testing for the AOEC 7-10th graders is being held on Tues., April 13 - Math, Wed., April 14 - Reading, and Thurs., April 22 - Language.  Make-Up Testing will be done on April 26, 27 or 30.

 

AOEC Blood Drive!

The AOEC will be hosting another Blood Drive on April 8th from 10a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Spot.  Please Help give blood and save a life!

 

Care Package Drive for Our Troops!

The AOEC is holding a collection drive for care packages to send to our Troops.  We will start collecting items, notes and money on April 15th in hopes of being able to send the care packages at the end of April.  This is a great way for our school to show gratitude and support for all that these troops are sacrificing for our country.  Click here for the Official List of items requested by our troops and items not acceptable.

AOEC Middle School Parent Days

On March 25th & 26th the AOEC Middle School classes will be holding Mid-Semester Parent Days from 7:30a-2:00p in rooms 24 & 25.  Parents will be updated on their student's achievements and given a chance to learn about the APEX computer program the student use.

 

February 2010

Presentations by Lincoln Tech

On Wednesday, Feb.24, 2010, at 10:00am, there will be 40 minute presentations given in each, First Shift High School classroom.  Mr. Dave McGuire, Admissions Rep. from Lincoln College of Technology will be discussing Lincoln Tech. and the various Career Opportunities available to our students upon Graduation.  Mr. McGuire will start in Mr. Byrne's room at 10:00am, followed by Ms. Lightfoot's room at 10:40am and Mr. Cave's room at 11:20am.

 

The following events are for the AOEC Middle School for the month of February.

  • February 11th - 10:30a - CLC representative, Mr. Bobo is speaking on the importance of an education.
  • February 18th - 10:30a - Chief Whitherspoon and Sam Cunningham are giving a presentation about the Lake County Jail.
  • February 24th - 9:00a - Harriet Tubman at the Genesee Theatre
  • February 25th - 11:30a - African American Potluck Lunch celebrating African American History Month.

 

January 2010

Welcome Cubbies!

The CUBS Caravan will be visiting the AOEC on Thursday, January 14, 2009 at 1:30pm. Members of the Cubs team, coaches and staff will be talking with the students about the importance of Reading and School.

YWCA Health Fair

The YWCA will be holding a Health Fair at AOEC for all students on Tuesday, Janurary 19, 2010.  The schedule will be from 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM.  AOEC will run an AM Session schedule only.  The YWCA will be providing a presenter in each of the four rooms followed by lunch.

CALLING ALL DONORS...

The AOEC/Stephens Center is holding a Blood Drive again this year! The Blood Drive is being done by American Red Cross and is scheduled for Thursday, December 10, 2009 from 10:00 am-2:00 pm in the Spot (2nd floor). November 2009

Parent/Teacher Conferences are being held on Wednesday, November 4th and Thursday, November 5th from 4:30p-7:30p. Due to the conferences, the AOEC AM and PM class schedules are shortened by 30 minutes each day. AM students will attend class from 7:30a-12:00pm and PM students will attend class from 12:00pm-4:30pm both days.

The AOEC welcomes parents to schedule an appointment during the conference times to speak with your childs teacher. They are available to discuss your child's progress and address any questions or concerns you may have.

CHICAGO TRIBUNE INTERVIEW

The Chicago Tribune is coming today to interview the students in the Parenting Class given weekly by Kids Hope United. The Parenting class was the first class/group taught outside of required academic classes when the AOEC began. The class is currently held on Wednesdays from 8:30a-10:00a and 1:00p-2:00p, instructed by Carlene Otto.

 

August 2009

The first day of school for the AOEC/Stephens Center is Wednesday, August 26, 2009. It will be a full day of school for the AOEC students.
