Congratulations! We are proud to announce that Terrance B. won this years’ spelling bee at Jack Benny. Terrance beat 82 other participants and showed a lot of poise in standing up in front of 650 students and spelling some very difficult words. We are very proud of Terrance and wish him well in the Sectional Spelling Bee which be held at Forrestal Elementary School in Great Lakes IL.

We would also like to congratulate Marianne C. who is the runner up at this years’ spelling bee. The competition between Marianne and Terrance was exciting and had viewers on the edge of their seat. If Terrance is unable to attend the Section Spelling Bee, Marianne will take his place. Special Thanks to Mr. Greg Freels for coordinating the Jack Benny Spelling Bee. A job well done by all!

"SPOTLIGHT - Edna Escobedo, Jackie L. and Cynthia N."

On Saturday, April 14, 2012, when most of us were doing housework, running errands, working or relaxing at home,  Ms. Edna Escobedo, (parent of 8th grade student Jackie L.), Jackie L. and Cynthia N., both members of the L.A.D.I.E.S. club came to Jack Benny Middle School to lay bags and bags of red mulch in our front garden.  You can't imagine how pleasantly surprised we were to see the front of our building's garden garnished with beautiful red mulch.   Thank you again, from all of us at Jack Benny Middle School!

Summer School

Some 8th graders have been "invited" to go to Summer School to improve their MAP scores.  I have asked them to turn their applications in either to me or to their Advisory teacher.  If you receive any please mark the date and time and I will collect them from you.

Summer Enrichment Academy

The District is offering a variety of classes over the summer and want us to be sure the students know what the opportunities are and how to apply.  I will give each teacher a few flyers and packets with the course offerings to share with their Advisories.  If your students want more than I have provided, I will be glad to pass them out as needed.

Dear 8th Grade Parents,

If you are interested in organizing a graduation dance and other end-of-the year 8th grade activities, please email Ms. Cruz.

Thank you.
