About Our School

Thomas Jefferson Middle School’s mission is to provide all students with a learning environment that meets the needs of the whole child academically, physically, emotionally, and socially. We will prepare our students for their future roles as productive citizens and life-long learners. We educate a variety of students such as our bilingual/ESL, regular and gifted education, and monolingual and bilingual special education programs.

Our mission is based upon the developmental needs of adolescents. The faculty and staff have a strong commitment to the middle school philosophy. This commitment includes the concept of teaming in order to assist students in their transition to the next level. Teachers are teamed by grade levels with special emphasis on the needs, interests, and learning styles of our students. Teams operate similarly to “mini schools” within themselves, and deliver unique instruction within the school. The team becomes the student’s in-school “family.”

By providing only the best educational experiences for our students, we will build a reputation among educators and within our community as the premiere choice for middle school instruction.

School Improvement Plan

At Thomas Jefferson Middle School we believe that all students are Gifted and College Bound. We use research based instruction and curriculum to enhance student learning and to increase student academic growth. We are data driven in our decision making and continually monitor our growth patterns to find ways to better serve the needs of our students. As a Response to Intervention school, we try to address the needs of our students both academically, socially, and behaviorally. In all three areas we continue to use the data to be our driving force. In 2009 we made AYP, meeting state standards. Our updated School Improvement Plan, created by our Building Leadership Team, will continue to lead us in the proper direction of again making AYP in 2010 and 2011 during the term of the plan.
