Thomas Jefferson Middle School has a uniform/dress code policy. This is an established policy approved by the Waukegan School Board. Dress code attempts to ensure a learning environment free from the distraction of gang colors, the latest fashions, theft of clothing, and students dressing less than modest. Deviation from the policy will result in an automatic detention. Tops: Solid Navy Blue only. Shirts must be crew neck or collared. When shopping for shirts, most stores have sections called “uniform approved.” No wording or symbols are allowed on shirts. When shopping for shirts, most stores have sections called “uniform approved.” Undershirts or shirts worn underneath the navy blue must either be solid navy blue or solid white. We do not advise purchasing shirts from Aeropostale, Rainbow, Discovery Clothing, Hollister, and Abercrombie as often times these shirts are low cut and inappropriate for uniform shirts unless they have a button up collar. Bottoms: Solid Khaki or navy blue only. Sagging pants, jeggings, or any other clingy pant material will not be allowed. Those that insist on wearing sagging pants will be required to tuck in their shirts and will be required to wear a belt. Skirts (even with shorts underneath) must be of appropriate length and size. Shoes: Solid black or white or any combination of black and white. No flip flops, slippers or any other shoe that poses a health risk, will be allowed. Black or white shoestrings only. DRESS CODE IS REQUIRED ON THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL and everyday thereafter unless otherwise noted. Stores that have approved collared uniform shirts and pants include: Sears, Dickey’s Store, K-Mart, Wal-Mart, Burlington, and JC Penny’s. Walgreens on Belvidere has also agreed to carry solid navy blue t-shirts at the start of the school year. Thank you for your cooperation and support of our uniform/dress code policy. |
