About Our School

Miguel Juarez Middle School is the youngest and newest school in Waukegan. In 1996, the Board of Education approved a new middle school due to increased enrollment. Miguel Juarez Middle School, formerly known as East Middle School, was housed in the vacant Waukegan East High School campus for three years. Eighth grade was added in 1997. The existing facility, dedicated in the fall of 1999, is located at 201 North Butrick Street.

In 2005, the Board of Education, with community support, voted to rename our school Miguel Juarez Middle School in memory of the former Waukegan Police Chief Miguel Juarez, recognizing his positive contributions to the community. Chief Juarez was also a member of the Waukegan Unit School District Board of Education. Miguel Juarez died on March 4, 2003. On March 3, 2006, a Dedication Ceremony was held to officially rename our school Miguel Juarez Middle School.

Our middle school is culturally diverse and family oriented. There is a high turnout for school events such as open house, concerts, parent conferences, and parent seminars. Miguel Juarez Middle School takes pride in focusing on the areas of problem solving, communication, using technology, working on teams, and making community connections to student learning. Miguel Juarez Middle School has over 700 students enrolled. We provide Regular Education, Special Education, Bilingual, and Newcomers programs. We have a support staff which serves as a great resource to our school.

Our students have been the recipients of numerous awards, as well as several athletic championships. Several staff members have been recognized as well, and honored for their professional contributions in all fields of education.

Additionally, we strengthen our ability to provide students an exceptional educational experience through our expanded academic partnerships.
