COMMUNITY SERVICE
- Teacher Coordinator: Ms. Harris
- Purpose:Students will organize, create and execute services and projects to our school and community.
- Requirements: Any student who likes to volunteer for the community may join.
- Meeting Dates: Thursdays after school until 3:00pm in room 164
- Activities: Whittier Book Drive, Pennies for Patients
GARDEN CLUB
- Teacher Coordinator: Mr. Truby
- Purpose: Students will be learning gardening skills while they beautify the school and community.
- Requirements: Any student who is interested in joining will be able to participate.
- Meetings: Mondays from 2:00-3:00
- Activities: Beautification
HOMEWORK CLUB
- Teacher Coordinator:Mrs. Davis
- Purpose: Students who need extra help or extra time to do homework or tutoring can come in
- Requirements: Any student who is interested in joining will be able to participate.
- Meetings: Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:30-3:30pm in room 234
NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY
- Teacher Advisor: Mrs Corush
- Requirements: Students must be nominated by their teachers to join.
- Meeting Dates: Every Monday from 2-3pm unless noted in the announcements
This is a nationally sponsored chapter here at Miguel Juarez Middle School. We have four 8th grade officers who play a big role in managing our chapter. Every fall we host an induction ceremony to welcome new members.
In our chapter the members are expected to demonstrate 5 key skills: Leadership, Scholarship, Citizenship, Service and Character.
Each member is required to function above average in regards to behavior and academics. A requirement of 20 hours of service/volunteer work and have it documented. In the past our chapter has sponsored a blood drive and a food drive.
NEWSPAPER
- Teacher Coordinator: Miss Spulber
- Purpose: The newsletter is a student-run newspaper called "Paw Prints" . It is open to students who love to write and are interested in journalism. The newspaper will feature articles about school events, academics, sports, clubs and community events. The newspaper will also include information about the amazing things our teams are doing, classroom activities, field trips, and faculty study groups for school improvement.
- Requirements: Students who like to interview staff and students and like to write articles may join the newspaper club.
- Meeting Dates: Thursdays, 2:20-3:15pm
SES TUTORING PROGRAM
- Teacher Coordinator: Mr. Lee
- Purpose: Students recieve after school tutoring using curriculums based on various tutoring companies.
- Requirements: Selected students will be chosen to be able to participate in this program.
- Meeting Dates: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:18-3:50pm
S.T.A.R.S. (Successfully Targeting And Reaching Students)
S.T.A.R.S. is an extended day program that provides elementary and middle school students with a wonderful opportunity to increase their academic achievement, while at the same time build social skills in a fun and innovative way.
The program consists of two 12 week sessions. Session one is in operation from September through December and session two operates from February through May.
Participants meet immediately after school from Monday through Friday. Students are provided a nutritious snack and academic assistance. In addition, enrichment activities are offered in the following areas: Performing Arts, Dance, Martial Arts, Fine Arts and Recreational Activities. Participants are provided door-to-door transportation home.

STUDENT COUNCIL
- Teacher Coordinators: Mrs. Jackson
- Purpose: Student Council is a student based group where each section elects a class representative. All elected class representatives can be Student Council Officers. We like to execute school activites that lean toward school spirit, community, and fundraising.
- Meeting Dates: Mondays from 2-3pm
- Duties/Requirements of a Student Council Class Representative
- Daily Breakfast check during 1st period
- To be an honest and responsible leader for your section. Helping any substitutes with daily “know-hows” (attendance, seating, location of materials,etc.), recycling, welcoming new students to the school, etc. Any responsible tasks can be assigned from any teacher to the class representative
- Demonstrate Juarez Values on a daily basis.
- Maintain a good attendance record.
- Maintain a 1.5 GPA
- 100% commitment as a class representative
- Duties/Requirements of a Student Council Officer
- Fulfill duties as a class representative
- Help plan and organize events, activities, fundraisers, etc.
- Attend after school and evening events.
- Participate and motivate the school to get involved with any of our planned activities, events, fundraisers, etc.
TEEN REACH AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM
- Teacher Coordinator: Ms. Gray
- Purpose: Teen Reach After School Program is a program lead by NICASA of the Lake County Health Department. This program provides tutoring support for Juarez students.
- Requirements: Any interested students may join. Students must fill out an application form.
- Meeting Dates: The Teen Reach After School Program meets every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
TEENS TAKING CHARGE (sponsored by the Lake County Health Department)
- Purpose: To build life lessons about staying healthy, friendships, dating, abstinence and setting goals for a successful future with their peers.

- The Future is Ours Group is for 6th grade girls
- Girl 2 Girl is for 7th & 8th grade girls
- MVP'S (Males Valuing Personal Success) is for 7th & 8th Grade boys
- Requirements: VERY EXCLUSIVE! Students must be recommended from their counselor. The ideal candidate should be on track for academic success, are role models, demonstrate ability to stand up to peer pressure, resolve conflicts peacefully, positive attitude toward peers, group leaders and school staff. These students should be perceived by staff and classmates as positive leaders. Once recommended by their counselor, they must have a teacher recommendation form filled and a parent permission form.

YEARBOOK
- Teacher Coordinator: Ms. Gibbs
- Purpose: Yearbook Club designs a book that contains all the memories of the school year. Students take pictures, design pages, and much more to make a memorable yearbook.
- Meeting Dates: Every other Thursday from 2:00 - 3:00 with additional meetings as necessary
- Requirements: Students must fill out an application at the beginning of the school year to be part of the club. Students must meet ALL the requirements of the application to be a member.
