Our mission is to ensure that all students acquire the wide array of literacy skills necessary for success in the twenty-first Century.

VISION STATEMENT

We, the Waukegan High School community, commit ourselves to helping our students become productive citizens and life long learners who demonstrate the intellectual and interpersonal skills necessary to thrive in a changing world.

GOALS

1. To create a safe and secure learning environment;

2. To create a climate of high expectations where all students have an opportunity to learn;

3. To create a learning community where quality instruction and leadership is the norm; and

4. To create varied forms of assessment for the sole purpose of monitoring and improving student performance.

STATEMENT OF PHILOSOPHY

The purpose of Waukegan High School is to assist, with the help of the parents and the community, all students in their development as an individual and as a responsible citizen in a democratic society and the world community.

OBJECTIVES

• To provide the opportunity, instruction, guidance, and encouragement for each student to recognize and accept responsibility for these goals.
• To develop higher levels of competency in the basic skills of reading, writing, oral communication, and problem solving.
• To develop understanding of and appreciation for social sciences, natural sciences, humanities, foreign languages, and the fine and applied arts.
• To develop intellectual curiosity that broadens and strengthens the base of the student’s knowledge and experience.
• To develop the ability to think analytically and creatively, and to reflect this learning in the student’s attitudes and behavior.
• To develop and maintain a healthy body.
• To develop sensitivity, respect, and understanding for others.
• To develop as a self-disciplined individual, accountable for actions.
• To develop the ability to cope with controversy, conflict, and change.
• To develop an awareness of careers appropriate to individual interests and aptitudes and to consciously pursue programs intended to enhance career goals.
• To develop an awareness of technological changes within our society and provide opportunities for expanding technological skills.

Waukegan High School desires that each student, in his / her endeavor to achieve theses objectives, will realize his / her unique potential and lead a life of personal satisfaction and service to others.
